Eyelashes are an important part for of the overall beauty of the face. So what's a girl to do to get natural, full flirty lashes. Latisse® is the first and only FDA-approved treatment for eyelash growth, offers an alternative solution to building up lashes with cosmetics. Available by prescription only, Latisse® can help eyelashes in three areas: length, thickness and darkness.
What is Latisse®? The active ingredient in Latisse®, bimatoprost, has been approved since 2001 to treat elevated eye pressure in patients with glaucoma. Doctors noticed that those patients treated with bimatoprost grew longer, thicker and darker eyelashes.
How does Latisse® work? Latisse® works gradually to nourish and build eyelashes. Although the precise workings of bimatoprost on eyelashes are currently not known, researchers believe that it stimulates more hairs into the active growth phase (anagen) and increases the duration of the this phase resulting fuller and longer lashes. Patients will begin to see an increase in thickness and fullness of their eyelashes between 3 to 8 weeks with full results reported in 12 to 16 weeks of use.
What kind of results can I expect? With Latisse,® you can expect to grow beautiful natural eyelashes that are longer, thicker and darker than you have now. Latisse® works gradually, with noticeable improvements after four weeks, and full results after 16 weeks of treatment. By the 16th week, 78% of patients saw significant increases in length, fullness and darkness according to a clinical study. it is important to remember that Latisse® must be administered every day for the best results. If you stop Latisse®, your eyelashes will return to their previous appearance over several weeks to several months. You may continue with Latisse® applications again anytime you wish. On average, Latisse® makes eyelashes 25% longer, 105% thicker and 18% darker after 16 weeks of use.
Are there any potential side effects from using Latisse®? The most common side effects of Latisse® are itching and redness of the eyes in less than 4% of users. Rarer side effects could include dryness of the eyes, skin darkening of the treatment area which may be reversible and increased brown pigmentation in the colored part of the eye which is likely permanent. The risk of rare side effects is significantly reduced by carefully following directions for use and application.

If you forget a day, don't worry and just start up again the next night. However do not compensate for missed eyelash treatments by applying more solution. - Immediately draw the Latisse® applicator carefully along the skin at the base of the upper eyelashes (where the eyelashes meet the skin) going from the inner part of your lash line to the outer part. Do not apply in your eye or to the lower eyelid because excess growth outside the treatment area may occur.
- Blot any excess Latisse® solution beyond the eyelid with a tissue.
- Dispose of the Latisse® applicator after one use. Repeat for opposite eyelid using a new sterile applicator to help minimize any potential for contamination from one eye to the another.
