Where do wrinkles form ?
Your skin consists of two layers known as the epidermis and the dermis.  The epidermis is the outer layer of the skin and acts as the skin's primary defense against the environment.  The dermis is the innermost layer of the skin and is composed primarily of connective tissue and provides the skin with a support network.  Most facial wrinkles and deeper nasolabial folds occur within the dermal layer of the skin.

How does Juvéderm® XC work?
Young, healthy looking skin contains an abundance of naturally hydrating substance call hyaluronic acid (HA). Much like a sponge, its primary function is to bind and absorb water, which creates volume in the ace.  In this way, Hyaluronic acid can be thought of as the body's internal moisturizer.  But as you age, sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of HA in your skin.  The lack of HA causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds like those parentheses lines around your nose and mouth.  Using a dermal filler like Juvéderm® XC is a safe and effective way to replace the ha your skin has lost, bringing back its volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds.

What makes Juvéderm® XC different from other dermal fillers?
Not all dermal fillers are created equal.  Only Juvéderm® XC is so smooth.  All other hyaluronic acid fillers currently on the market are made of granular consistency gels, but our unique manufacturing process (hylacross) creates a smooth-consistency gel.  Our unique manufacturing process provides a high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid for long-lasting results.  The smooth-consistency gel flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel.

How long will my results last?
Juvéderm® XC is the only Hyaluronic acid filler FDA approved to last up to one year with one treatment.  How long your will see the benefits of Juvéderm®XC  treatments depends upon the treatment location, amount of treatment and the nature of your skin.  For example, highly mobile areas like the lips tend to require at least a touch-up treatment after about 6 months.  Areas where there is less movement may only require additional treatment after 12 months.  Experience has shown that smaller amounts of Juvéderm® XC is often needed for maintenance than the amount required for the initial treatment.

Is treatment with Juvéderm® XC injectable gel painful?
Unlike other facial fillers, Juvéderm® XC is formulated with the local anesthetic, lidocaine, for a more comfortable treatment experience.   The smooth-consistency gel of Juvéderm® XC allows for an easy, smooth injection with a tiny needle.  To further minimize discomfort, a topical numbing cream and an ice pack may also be used to anesthetize the treatment area.

Is Jevéderm® XC safe for different skin types?
Juvéderm® XC injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and effectiveness in persons of color.  Studies with Juvéderm® XC showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.

How long does the treatment usually take?
The injection process generally takes only about 15 minutes.  Time is always allowed prior to treatment to discuss goals and expectations, review the treatment procedure and answer any questions or concerns.

What are the possible side effects of Juvéderm® XC?
The most common side effects are injection site reactions such as redness, pain / tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching and discoloration. Side effects are mild or moderate in nature and their duration is short, lasting 7 days or less.
